Donny Lia Puts The Mystic Missle In Sizzler Victory Lane For The First Time

The marriage of Donny Lia the racecar driver and Bob Garbarino the race team owner is already paying off for both.

On Sunday Lia got the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour victory at Stafford he's been on the hunt chasing for 5 years Whelen_modified_tourand Garbarino got the Spring Sizzler victory he's been trying to score for the last 35 years.

Lia passed former series champion Todd Szegedy with just over two laps remaining and then held off Szegedy over the final mile of competition to win the 36th Tech-Net Spring Spring Sizzler at Stafford Motor Speedway.

"I knew I needed a change," said Lia, who had run his own team since 2001 until joining Garbarino before the start of this season. "He’s got the equipment and all the tools. We’ve just kind of put our stuff together with some of my crew and his guys, we knew going into the season we could run good but these first two races we’ve had the car to win. I’m just besides myself. I’m so happy this is working.

"I just want to thank him for letting me do this. He could have anyone drive his racecars. There’s a lot of guys out there with more credentials than me. For him to give me a shot, I’m just blown away. I just hope I can make him happy."
