They said it couldn't be done.
A racing blog, at the Hartford Courant? Nobody is going to look at that.
Ok, so maybe it's just a few select friends hitting refresh over and over and over and over again, just don't tell the management types here our little secret.
Yes, its a big day at our treasured little piece of undervalued web space here, our little blog is growing up.

Motocross legend Ricky Carmichael will be running for a championship this season in the Camping World East Series for Ken Schrader Racing with backing from Hendrick Motorsports, his manager Scott Taylor said Thursday.
Carmichael will be sponsored by Monster energy drink.
Carmichael, 28, who retired from full-time motocross racing after 2006 is trying to make his way up the rungs of the stock racing ladder.
Carmichael had been under contract as a driver last year with former Sprint Cup Series team owner Bobby Ginn and raced about 15 Late Model events around Florida last summer.

Some random musings, observations and just plain ramblings upon decompressing from 12 days in Daytona.
--- For all the pomp, all the grandeur, all the immensity of the event itself, you start to realize as the race weekend comes to a close that the Daytona 500 is just another event of 36 on the schedule. At its core it’s really no different than Pocono or Indianapolis or New Hampshire. The same drivers that give tired and clichéd responses to questions before a race at Dover give the same stale lines before Daytona, there’s just a lot more reporters hanging around the garage and a much longer pre-race show.

Beyond the eye-catching Monster Energy drink fire suit, he looked much the same as so many other anonymous faces looking for the fast lane around New Smyrna Speedway Sunday night.
In the paddock at New Smyrna the smallish driver walked around unfettered among all shapes and sizes of 4-wheeled racing vehicles.
There’s little doubt that wouldn’t be the case had it been 2-wheeled racing going on. But then again, Ricky Carmichael, one of the most legendary motocross drivers in history, kind of likes being the guy that isn’t the superstar that everybody wants a piece of.

One look down the finishing order and one might have thought it just another mid-summer Friday night at Stafford or maybe a humid Thursday evening down the road at Thompson.
The names are familiar to Modified racing fans across the Northeast: Ted Christopher, Jimmy Blewett, Chuck Hossfeld and a host of others.
The Northeast has long been the center of Modified racing in the United States. Modifieds are the headline division at all three NASCAR-sanctioned short tracks in Connecticut and the Whelen Modified Tour packs grandstands from New Hampshire to New Jersey all summer.

The mission: Fishing Lake Lloyd.
Since its late and I’m still recovering from an all-nighter after Wednesday UConn football signing day mayhem which ran right into Thursday’s morning travel plans here to Daytona, here’s the cliff notes version of today in the F – L – A for this Daytona first timer.
The infield at Daytona International Speedway is stunning, not just for its sheer size but for everything going on there. Its like this, the infield at Pocono is big and barren; the infield at Daytona is like a thriving little metropolis.

And here I was just hoping to get recognized by the locals when I arrived at New Smyrna Speedway in New Smyrna, Fla. later this afternoon.
With so many Whelen Modified Tour teams and local SK Modified teams competing at New Smyrna I have this feeling that walking the grounds of New Smyrna will feel a lot like walking the paddock at one of the state’s short tracks.
But I didn’t expect the first recognition of the day to come well before I even left the state. How about the moment I got off the shuttle bus from the long term parking lot?
