In one of many nice examples of blogs connecting the dots -- when the mainstreamers aren't -- My Left Nutmeg notices first that Chris Shays is a named beneficiary of a Karl Rove strategy to use the federal government's resources to further the political aims of Republican candidates. (I love the $23 weather radio presentation. World's puniest earmark!) Apparently, this was not something restricted to the Department of Justice.
And then MLN goes a little bit further and notes Shays's spirited, you-are-so-beautiful-to-me defense of Lurita Doan, the point-woman for this strategy. This should surface as an interesting issue in next year's campaign.
I d0n't have anything more to contribute, except to say I am worried that Heloise may be caught in their web. Also, I believe Halliburton was, at one point, selling actual million dollar fudge to the Pentagon.

I happened to stumble across the hearing of Lurita. She is a classic. The Bush team must have a special training for testifying before congress. Her testimony was AG GONZO like. "Yes I’m in charge but I haven’t got a clue" She was an embarrassment. http://thinkprogress.org/2007/03/28/lurita-cookies-doan/

Karl Rove looks a lot like Matt Hennessy in that picture... come to think of it... maybe they have more in common than we thought?
