Top 10 up to now

We're a bit past the halfway point in 2006, but if I had to pick a top-10 list now, here's what would be on it:

1. Neko Case, "Fox Confessor Brings the Flood" (Anti-)
2. Centro-matic, "Fort Recovery" (Misra)
3. Gnarls Barkley, "St. Elsewhere" (Downtown)
4. Scritti Politti, "White Bread Black Beer" (Rough Trade)
5. Cat Power, "The Greatest" (Matador)
6. The Flaming Lips, "At War With the Mystics (Warner Bros.)
7. Neil Young, "Living With War" (Reprise)
8. Priestess, "Yes Master" (Ace Fu)
9. The Coup, "Pick a Bigger Weapon" (Epitaph)
10. Editors, "The Back Room" (Fader/Kitchenware)

All of these are subject to change, of course -- there's a spate of promising new releases due out over the next month or so. It's going to take something spectacular, though, to dislodge Neko Case or Centro-matic.

Comments

I think the Scritti LP is my fave so far.

Not to nitpick, but Editors' LP came out in 2005, good sir.

Eric replies: That's true, but the Stateside release was in March.
