Ben Wu missing since Saturday

Benwu Ben Wu, who books bands at the Webster Theatre, has been missing in the British Virgin Islands since Saturday.

Authorities, including the U.S. Coast Guard, are searching for Wu, who was last seen around 9:30 a.m. walking on the beach near Long Bay Beach Resort on the northwestern shore of Tortola. He was staying with other Webster employees at the vacation home of theater owner Justine Robertson. He was scheduled to return to Connecticut Monday, police said.

Wu is 5-feet-8, has short black hair shaved on the sides, distinctive tattoos on his lower arms of Bible verses and Chinese symbols, and he was thought to be wearing a light brown sleeveless top and shorts.

There's more detail here, and a Find-Ben-Wu Facebook page here. (Incidentally, initial speculation by police that Ben may have been suffering from depression was pro-forma and has since been withdrawn.) Anyone with any information should contact police in the British Virgin Islands, 284-494-2945.

Everyone here has said how the Shag Frenzy massive feels. We need him in the scene, and we need him around as a friend. Keep the prayers going and the lights burning.

If this Ben Wu had lived in North Stonington when he was younger,
I had worked with his mother.
My heart and prayers go out to the whole family and friends.
I wish everyone the best in their search for him.

Ben has done so much for our band, and for all of us in The Cession to hear about this is unbelievable. My drummer called me late last night to tell me the news and I presonally did not believe him until I searched. I pray he returns safely, there are a lot of people who care about him.

don't try to contact ben via cell phone, it is one of the only ways the authorities have to track and we don't want the battery to die!

i can't say whether they know he was signed into aim, but they do know he was using his phone while he was there.

I know Ben well. He plays by the rules. If I had to offer one word that would describe him it would be honorable. His word is his word. Plus he loves music and loves the artists he works with. He has a great sense of the Connecticut and the U.S. music scene. We need him back here in Connecticut or the Connecticut music business will never be the same.

Ben is a great guy. My husbands band played at the webster too many timnes to count all because of Ben. He is a very awesome guy, very easy to talk to even if you were meeting him for the first time. He works so hard at his job, and is damn good at it! He helps so many bands succeed locally. We all hope to see you soon Ben!

You did a nice job with your article on Ben. Especially since there is very limited info about what is going on.

It's strange, his screen name is online with his cell phone attached to it. I'm trying to get through to the police down there to see if they know this but there isn't an answer at that phone number.

Eric replies: I saw the same thing online yesterday, but I'm not sure that necessarily means his phone is on. Keep trying the cops, though -- it took me a little while to get through.

Ben's was always a cool dude who gave my band the oppurtunties we wanted to play some sweet shows. Hope to see ya soon buddy!
