Bug Infestation

It was bad enough when networks would flash those annoying promos for other shows at the bottom of the screen.

"We don't want to know about that show, we want to watch this one!" Lewis Black said memorably at the Emmys.

Well, NBC for one has changed its tack.

This week, instead of showing an intrusive promo and wiping it away, they've stuck a bug promoting midseason show and kept it up there for the entirety of the program.

Why bother buying big screen or hi-def screens this time of the year if all networks are going to clutter it up with logos, promos and bugs that may well burn into the sets since they sit there for hours at a time and don't move.

On NBC tonight, in addition to the full color peacock logo -- one with a Santa hat on it now, there is a bug that says LIVE EST on the screen at all times and worst than that a bug that says "NEW LAW & ORDER Jan. 2nd." And won't go away.

It almost made sense last night when the constant bug was about the "Biggest Loser" season starting Jan. 1, since it showed during the finale of the current "Biggest Loser" season.

But what's the connection between "Clash of the Choirs" and "Law & Order" (except that we'd rather be watching that)?
