The best topical moments of local TV this season are definitely the congressional debates. Ignited by urgent issues that add up by the day – Iraq and torture and counter-terrorism measures – plus all the new fallout of the page scandal, they are the liveliest, most intelligent exchanges.
Unlike the spate of negative political ads, so cowardly and unaccountable, here is a way for candidates to stand up for themselves and against the charges of their opponents, in a way that’s only beneficial for voters.
