UConn Football

Shawn Courchesne is in his second season covering UConn football for The Courant. Shawn began working at The Courant in 1993 as a high school clerk while still in college. Over the years Shawn has covered everything from professional bull riding to the NFL. Before taking over the UConn football beat Shawn primarily covered auto racing and boxing for The Courant. Shawn continues to cover auto racing for The Courant and also writes a blog on racing called The Backstretch.

UConn Women's Basketball

John Altavilla returns to the UConn women's basketball beat after nine years covering the New York Giants and the NFL for the Courant. This is his second stint with the Huskies. Geno Auriemma likely believes that his first was a miserable failure, an era that featured knee injuries to Shea Ralph, that little incident involving Nykesha Sales and a layup at Villanova but no national championships. He hopes to do better this time.

I have been a UConn Men's Basketball team fan for more decades than I care to count, but this is the first team to really mystify me. I reside in FL now and so I onl got to see 8 or 9 games this season, but it just seemed like Stanley Robinson just didn't fit into the mix this year. Here's a guy with tremendous leaping ability and I never once saw an alley-oop pass attempted to him. it just seemd very apparent that he was uncomfortable with his "role" on the team.
