Football: Dan O. Expects A Move For D.J.

So here's a little sneak peak of an item slated to run in Sunday's paper.

Ran into Dan Orlovsky this morning in New Haven at a Walter Camp Football Foundation event.

Orlovsky got to talking about the quarterback position at UConn and what the future holds for D.J. Hernandez.

Orlovsky expects to see Hernandez lobbying to play another position if he doesn't win back the starting role at quarterback.

"I know D.J. and he will come out on top no matter if it’s at the quarterback position or another position," Orlovsky said. "I think he’ll talk to coach about a change if he can’t play at quarterback. If that happened I think he’d best fit at receiver. He’s a very good football player. You find a lot of guys that maybe aren’t the fastest or the biggest or the strongest but they’re football players. That’s D.J.

"Him and I have talked about it. I told him ‘Don’t get stubborn, don’t get prideful.’ I’ve told him, ‘You’ve worked so hard for this, don’t give up.’ I want to see him on the field more than anything. I’ve told him, ‘Go at it with everything you’ve got, but if it doesn’t happen swallow your pride and go OK, I can help this team somewhere else.'"
