Football: Feeling Much Much Better Now

Ah yes, there is a god of morning refreshment.

And Northland is back on my good list for this morning.

Some wonderful press box attendant just saw me take a walk over to beverage cooler one more time checking to see if the super secret soda security force had yet arrived to set free the soft drinks.

They hadn't, but this dude could clearly see the worry in my eyes (or maybe it was the fact that my eyes were barely open that caught his attention).

It’s a sparkling day at Rentschler Field.

The tailgating is on, the cars are pouring in, the sun is out with a slight whipping wind (bet Tony Ciaravino is thrilled about that).

I was a little taken aback by the strains of Joe D’Ambrosio over the stadium PA about 20 minutes ago giving fans the warning that the Husky Walk would be commencing soon.

That's it, we're out of here

--- Expect to see Mike Hicks starting at right tackle and Alex LaMagdelaine at left guard Saturday against Akron at Rentschler Field despite the fact that former starting right tackle Dan Ryan is recovered from the ankle injury he sustained against Maine.

Football: Lawrence Wilson Making The Most Of His Opportunity

He’s the quiet one that’s making all kinds of noise on the UConn defense.

And forcing the UConn football staff to make some choices at weakside linebacker.

With expected starter Ryan Henegan recovering from a preseason injury, redshirt freshman Lawrence Wilson earned the opportunity to start at weakside linebacker.

Wilson has made the most of his opportunity. After four games the first player from Alabama to play for UConn is leading the defense in tackles.

Wait, was her phone number 1 or 2 on the newsroom's speed dial? Or did Coach Summitt just stop by with coffee on her way to grabbing Geno by the throat yesterday?

Football: Pouring It On One Last Time From Heinz

Some odds and ends before bidding adieu to the Steel City.

In a blog entry before the game Saturday I mentioned having a tiny soft spot in my heart for the Pittsburgh Steelers born out of having a former close old friend who was the hardest of hardcore Steeler fan moved away from Connecticut about 5 years ago.

Well the strangest thing happened early in the game. My cell phone rang and it was weird because I really didn’t know who was calling, didn’t recognize the number on caller ID, but it sure sounded like whoever was calling me was calling from inside the stadium (sounds like a bad horror movie huh).
